Bring your students’ STEM learning to life
Exhibition Day is one of the highlights of the Galway Science & Technology Festival - and we would encourage your school to join us for one of Ireland's best STEM events.

We invite all Galway city and county based primary and secondary schools to create a school stand and give students the opportunity to showcase the science, technology, engineering and maths happening in your classroom.

Your stand does not need to be complicated or expensive. It could feature a class investigation, an experiment, a model, a prototype, a coding project, an environmental study or a question your students have explored together.
What matters most is giving young people the opportunity to share what they have discovered, explain their ideas and experience the excitement of being part of a major public STEM event.

This year’s theme: Water : from molecule to Ocean is a fantastic theme and so relevant for us here on the West Coast of Ireland. Water gives schools an enormous range of possibilities for Exhibition Day. Your project could explore:
• Water quality and testing
• Rivers, lakes and the Atlantic Ocean
• Marine life and biodiversity
• Flooding and climate change
• Water conservation
• Renewable energy and hydropower
• Engineering and water infrastructure
• Microplastics and pollution
• Weather and the water cycle
• Sustainable cities and communities
• Water, health and the human body
• Coding, sensors or technology used to monitor water
• Local streams, beaches, coastlines or habitats

You can interpret the theme as broadly and creatively as you wish. A project already underway in your classroom may be perfect for Exhibition Day, or the theme could become the starting point for a new class investigation.

Why take part? For the schools that participate, Exhibition Day becomes a memorable part of the school year. Students have the chance to move from being learners to becoming presenters, demonstrators and STEM ambassadors. They can explain their work to families, scientists, engineers, technology professionals and members of the public - building confidence, communication skills, teamwork and curiosity along the way.

It is also an opportunity for teachers to celebrate the excellent STEM work already happening in their schools and to connect classroom learning with the wider world of science, technology, education and industry.

€200 bursary available for participating schools

We want cost to be as little of a barrier as possible.
Participating schools can avail of a bursary of up to €200, payable on submission of receipts, to help with the materials required to develop and present your stand.

This could help towards items such as experiment materials, display materials, components, printing or other resources needed to bring your students’ project to life.

You don’t need to be a STEM expert - You do not need a specialist science laboratory, a large budget or an elaborate project to participate. Some of the most engaging stands begin with a simple question: What are our students curious about?
From there, pupils can investigate, test, build, measure, design, code, observe or experiment - and then tell the story of what they discovered.
Whether you bring a project from one class, a STEM club, a Green Schools group or a collaboration involving several subjects, we would be delighted to welcome your school.

Give your students their moment in the spotlight
There is wonderful science and technology work taking place in schools throughout our region every day. Exhibition Day gives young people the chance to share that work beyond the classroom and see themselves as part of the wider STEM community.
If you have ever considered taking part, "make this the year your school joins us." All Schools who take a stand will be given first priority for an event as prt of the the School's Programme, whether that is a visit to your school by a science communicator or a priority booking at one of our dedicated venues.
