Inspiring Young Minds to Power a Greener Future
Over 2,000 primary and secondary school students across Ireland took part in a hands-on STEM education programme focused on renewable energy and climate action, supported by the Galway Science & Technology Festival.
The initiative—now in its second year—has been made possible through community funding from SSE Renewables and Greencoat Renewables, co-owners of Galway Wind Park. Since September 2024, schools across Galway, Monaghan and Cavan received STEM kits containing all the materials needed for experiments, demonstrations and project work that bring the science of renewable energy to life.
Students participating in the workshops will showcase their projects at the Festival Exhibition Day on Sunday, 9th November, 2025, at the University of Galway.
Community Funding in Action
The programme has been partly funded through the 2024 Galway Wind Park Major Projects Fund, which supports community projects within 20km of Galway Wind Park. The Galway Board of Science & Technology received €38,000 to develop the educational programme, with a further €33,000 from the 2024 Cavan and Monaghan Community Benefit Fund, which distributes wind-powered funding on behalf of SSE Renewable wind farms in the region.
Galway Wind Park—one of Ireland’s largest and best-performing wind farms—has a capacity of 108MW, generating renewable energy to power local homes, schools and communities.
