Discover DNA, the instruction book found in all living things! Work like a molecular biologist and extract DNA from cells in your kitchen with everyday life items. Children will work with the support of their parents and the Cell EXPLORERS team! Participants prepare DNA from banana cells in their kitchen assisted by scientist explainers during a secure zoom meeting. You will get a chance to ask questions to the Cell Explorers scientists! Note that the Cell Explorers Online code of behaviour will apply to this workshop.
How do you enter:
Take a picture of the equipment needed to extract DNA in your kitchen (list below)
Equipment needed: 2 Small Glasses (~200ml), 1Teaspoon Salt, 100ml Water, 1x Teaspoon, Liquid Soap Quarter of a Banana Kitchen Roll (or J-Cloth), 1 Uncooked Spaghetti Strand (or toothpick), and from Cell explorers hand sanitisers without gel and with 80% ethanol (posted to you by GSTF)
When you have your ingredients together, email your picture to competition@galwayscience.ie along with your name, address and eircode and the first 40 entries will win a ticket to the workshop AND the last ingredient needed for the experiment will be posted to you.
